How to install the DiscourseHub app

The Online Community can also be accessed through the DiscourseHub app. The app is available on iOS and Android.

Instructions

1. Open Google Play or the App Store on your mobile phone or tablet.

2. Search for Discourse and click on the “DiscourseHub” app

Open

3. Click “Install” to install the app on your phone.

4. Enter the sites address onlinecommunity.stroke.org.uk and click the blue button + Add your first site

5. Tap the blue “Connect” button.

6. Log in to the Online Community

   1. Green box: Or login with your Google account by clicking "Sign up or log in using Google"

   2. Red box: Log in using the email you registered with or username, or you can click “Skip the password; email me a login link” to log in with a link.

Once you are logged in, you can post replies and start new discussions!

Notifications from the app

When you first install the Discourse app, you will be asked if you would like to receive "push notifications."

Push notifications will show up on your phone as a text message, letting you know when someone has replied to one of your posts.

It is entirely up to you if you want to have these turned on or off.

If you change your mind and want to enable or disable these, please follow the below instructions. First I'll go through how you can set this up on an Android phone or tablet. If you have an iPhone or iPad, please keep scrolling to the next section.

Changing notifications on an Android device

If you use an Android phone or tablet (Samsung for example), then please follow the below instructions:

1. Go to your Settings app

2. Find your Notifications menu

    

3. Tap into App notifications

    

4. Find the DiscourseHub app

5. Toggle the Show notifications switch on or off, and amend other notifications settings:

• notification badges

• floating notifications

• lock screen notifications

• play a sound when you receive a notification

• vibrate the phone when you receive a notification

Changing notifications on an Apple device

If you have an iPhone or iPad and want to change your notification settings, please follow the below instructions:

1. Go to your Settings app

2. Find the Notifications menu

    

3. Scroll down to the DiscourseHub option

    

4. Toggle the Allow Notifications switch on or off

    

5. You have a number of options if you are turning these on:

   • Choose what type of alert you want to receive

   • Choose if the Banner (or alert) should be temporary or persistent

   • Decide if you want to receive alerts for the Badges you receive

   • Choose how these notifications appear on your lock screen
