How to ignore and mute someone

How to ignore and mute someone

What this guide is about

Everyone should feel safe and welcome in the Online Community. If someone’s posts are upsetting you or making you feel uncomfortable, you can choose to:

  • Mute them - this means you won’t get any notifications from them (like replies or mentions), but you’ll still see their posts when scrolling.

  • Ignore them - this means all of their posts, replies, and mentions will be hidden from your view.

To block them as much as possible, we recommend doing both.

This guide will show you how you can manage these settings in two ways: from a person’s profile or directly in your Preferences.

How to Mute or Ignore someone from their profile

  1. Visit their profile: Click on the name or picture of the user you want to mute or ignore. This will open their profile page.

  2. Change notification settings: Look for the button that says “Normal” (or has a bell icon) near the top of their profile.

  1. Select Mute or Ignore

  • Mute: Stops notifications but doesn’t hide their posts.

  • Ignore: Hides everything, and you can choose how long to ignore them:

    • 1 day.

    • 1 week.

    • 1 month.

    • Forever.

Important things to know

  • These features are available to all users.

  • When you mute or ignore someone, they won’t be notified.

  • If a user’s behaviour violates community guidelines, muting or ignoring them won’t solve the problem for others. Please report them to a moderator for further action by contacting us through our Service desk or emailing the team at online.community@stroke.org.uk.
