How to send a direct message (DM) using the Chat feature

The chat feature in the Online Community allows you to send real-time direct messages (DMs) to other members. These messages are private and only visible to you and the recipient.
You must be logged in to send a chat message. DMs are private and not visible to other members.
This guide will show you how to:
Start a chat with another member.
Send and reply to messages.
How to start a chat with another member
Go to the homepage of the Online Community.
Click the hamburger menu (☰) icon in the top left corner.
In the sidebar menu, click the grey "Chat" button to open the chat feature.
Once the chat window opens, find the DMs (Direct Messages) section.
Click the "+" (plus) button to start a new chat.
Type the username of the member you want to message in the search box.
If the member has chat enabled, their name will appear.
Click on their name to start a chat.
Note: If a member has disabled chat, you will not be able to message them.
Type your message in the chat box that will appear on the bottom right-hand of the page.
Press the blue paper plane button to send your message.
Your message has now been sent!
Where to find your chat notifications
When someone sends you a new chat message, you will receive a notification in the top right corner of the Online Community.
Look for the speech bubble icon in the top right corner of the screen.
If you have a new message, a green number badge will appear on the icon.
Click the speech bubble icon to open your chat menu and read your messages.
