How to ignore or mute another user

What this guide is about

Everyone should feel comfortable in the Online Community. If someone’s posts or replies are bothering you, you can choose to Mute or Ignore them.

  • Mute: This setting stops notifications about a person’s posts, replies, or mentions. You’ll still see their posts if you browse the community, but they won’t pop up in your notifications.

  • Ignore: This setting hides everything they post, reply, or mention from your view. It’s like they’re not there at all.

This guide will show you how to:

  • Mute or Ignore someone from their profile.

  • Mute or Ignore someone in your settings.

How to Mute or Ignore someone from their profile

You can manage these settings in two ways: from a person’s profile or directly in your Preferences.

  1. Visit their profile: Click on the name or picture of the user you want to mute or ignore. This will open their profile page.

  2. Change notification settings: Look for the button that says “Normal” (or has a bell icon) near the top of their profile.

    • 1 month.

    • Forever.

  • You can also remove someone from your mute/ignore list or adjust the duration for ignoring them.

  1. Once you’ve finished, click the blue ‘Save Changes’ button.

Important things to know

  • Who can Ignore?: The Ignore feature is usually available only to all users.

  • Muting is available to everyone: Anyone can mute another user, regardless of their trust level.

  • No notifications: When you mute or ignore someone, they won’t be notified.

  • When to report: If a user’s behaviour violates community guidelines, muting or ignoring them won’t solve the problem for others. Please report them to a moderator for further action by contacting us through our Service desk or emailing the team at online.community@stroke.org.uk.
