How to change which notifications you receive in the browser

What this guide is about

You can choose which notifications you receive in the Online Community.

This guide will show you how to:

  • Change your notification settings.

  • Turn off notifications.

  • Set a custom schedule for notifications.

These are different from the emails you receive. If you would like to change your email preferences, read our how-to guide.

How to change your notification settings

  1. Click on your profile picture in the top right of the screen.

  2. Then click the grey person icon (blue circle) and select Preferences.

  1. Now click on the Notifications option.

Choosing when to get notifications for likes

When you have added a post, you can choose how often you are notified when people like that post. You have a number of options:

Get a notification every time your post is liked.

First time a post is liked and daily

Get a notification for the first like, then once per day if more people like it.

First time only

Get a notification only for the first like.

Never

No notifications for likes.

Below is an example of how it looks like.

Live notifications

If you don’t want to receive notifications at all, you can click this button to Disable Notifications.

Important: This is a browser based setting. If you use the forum on both your tablet and your laptop, for example, you can choose to disable notifications on one machine but not the other. This isn’t tied to your account, but rather to the browser you are using.

Setting a custom notification schedule

You can choose to receive notifications only during certain times of the day.

  • Scroll down the page and navigate to Notification Schedule settings.

  • Select the days and times when you want to receive notifications.

  • Click Save Changes.

Choosing when topics are considered “New”

You can decide when a topic is marked as new for you, this setting lets you choose what topics are considered to be “New” using this first setting:

  1. Click on the Tracking tab.

  2. Go to the Topics settings and choose a time period or have any topics you haven’t viewed to be considered “New”.

Automatically tracking topics you view

This next setting lets you automatically track topics that you have viewed. You can choose to automatically track topics after you’ve viewed them. Tracked topics will notify you if someone replies.

  1. Go to Topics settings.

  2. Select how long you need to view a topic before it’s tracked (e.g., after 4 minutes).

Choosing what happens when you post a topic

When you reply to a topic, you can choose:

Watch a topic

Get notified for all new replies.

Track topic

Get notified only if someone mentions your or replies to you.

Do nothing

No notifications unless you are directly tagged.
